My boyfriend and I took a trip to Balmaha, which on the banks of Loch Lomond on Wednesday night and stayed in the Oak Tree Inn so I thought I'd share my thoughts and a few pictures I took while we were there as it was beautiful.
We stayed at the Oak Tree Inn which is the most adorable little Inn with it's own restaurant, convenience store and coffee shop/ice cream parlour. If you live in Glasgow or the West of Scotland then you can get the train to Balloch (from Queen St station) then there's a bus (no. 309) which takes you straight to Balmaha, the buses are every hour and a half so keep that in mind when going as we had just missed one and were waiting about for ages. The bus takes around 25 mins and it takes you right to the Oak Tree Inn car park which is very handy. The Oak Tree Inn is having a 50% off their rooms for a few months so we decided now would be the perfect time to go. We went for the deluxe superior room as it was pretty cheap. The room came with a massive bed, an en suit shower room, a huge flat screen t.v, a little table and chairs and a terrace with a table and chairs as well. The room also had a view of the loch which was super nice too.
Unless you have a car, you pretty much have no choice but to eat at the Oak Tree Inn restaurant which is fine because the food was amazing. For mains, I got the bacon burger which was a strong 9/10 and Luke got the chickpea curry which I tasted as well and it was amazing. We got sides of onion rings and garlic bread which was delicious. For dessert, I got the Marsbar cheesecake which was lovely but oh so sickening and Luke got the banoffee pie which was amazing too. Overall, the restaurant was lovely, definitely not a problem that it was the only place to eat there at all.
They also have their own coffee shop & ice cream parlour which is super cute inside and has a wide range of hot drinks and ice cream. I got the apple pie milkshake which was honestly the best thing I've ever tasted. It was heavenly. Luke got the apple pie ice cream in cone form and it was a strong 1000/10, it had chunks of apple pie and it was the best.
The area around the Inn is amazing too, there is a little dock where you can take amazing photos of the loch and there's also the Millennium forest trail and the walk to Conic Hill. Luke and I took a hike up a pretty much vertical hill for the view of the beautiful snowy mountains, which yes we nearly fell and died but it was so worth it. It's also nice to get out the city every once and a while so I would highly recommend Balmaha if you're wanting a little break as it's not too far out and it's pretty cheap to get to.
I hope you liked this post and thank you for reading!
