I've always been a fan of face masks and I've especially been intrigued by the body shop as I had never tried anything from there and it's very hyped up in the blogging world so I thought it would be a perfect opportunity to pop in and grab some stuff while it was on offer. I decided to go for the Seaweed Iconic Clay Mask as I've never tried a mask that wowed me. I decided to get my boyfriend in on it too as I'm staying at his at the moment and it was only fair to drag him in as a little experiment. First off there will be our initial thoughts then the day after thoughts to see if it actually made a noticeable difference.
Initial thoughts
Jodie: First thoughts were that the face mask felt like a normal mask except a little thicker than the ones I've used previously, earthy type smelly and looked like green mud - pretty much the description you'll get for most face masks. At first the mask was fine and dried quickly around my t-zone and chin area but my cheeks were still wet by the time I had to wash it off as it was stinging quite bad around my cheek area where it was still dark. Everywhere else felt fine but when I washed the mask off my cheeks were sore and raw as well as burning hot. I decided to look up a few reviews for the mask to see if this was common and it seems to be the case. In future I will just put the mask down my t-zone and chin or maybe just on spots to treat them as it's far too harsh for larger areas like your cheeks. My skin is pretty clear right now so I can't say much on that front but it did leave my skin feeling quite tight and stripped but followed up by a moisturiser will sort that out.
Luke: Having never been the brunt of Jodie's "experiments" before (her intentions for putting makeup on me are a scary thought to say the least) I have never used a face mask, and as such I didn't really know what to expect.. Applying it felt like I was preparing a low budget Halloween costume, it it was thicker than the spot creams I'm used too, and was a very swampy grey/green colour. Once it was on, it dried quickly, and soon began to tingle on my cheeks, with the rest of my face feeling somewhat unaffected. Some of the spot creams I use feel more harsh on the skin and I'm interested to see how clear my skin is tomorrow morning!
The Day After Thoughts
Jodie: My skin feels the exam same as it does every morning except maybe the slightest bit softer but no major differences that I noticed. This mask claims to draw out impurities, clarify and refresh and I suppose this may be true with continual use but I haven't noticed any difference in my skin so far but as I said previously, my skin is very clear right now so maybe I'm not the best person to be asking. The soreness and redness on my cheeks went down after about 20 minutes last night and I applied my usual skin case as normal.
Luke: On first use I didn't really notice any change, and my face felt the same as any other morning. Having never tried anything like this before I was hoping/expecting big things, and I was underwhelmed with the results. I suppose it may be harsh to judge it in first use, but I have used other products that provide more noticeable changes for my skin than this did. I doubt i'd use the product by myself, but i'd probably join Jodie if she did again!
This mask did not wow me but I still think is a nice product to use for it's price as it's mid range in the way of skin care. Would I buy again? Probably not just because I'd like to try out other masks but maybe if I keep using it I will fall in love with it, who knows but on first impression it's just another mask.
Luke was very excited to be a part of this review... honestly.
Thank you for reading and I hope you enjoyed
