Cinnamon Nutella Cake

On Saturday, Luke and I decided to bake for the first time ever using actual ingredients instead of out a box which we always mess up (I have no idea how...) and it went pretty well for our first time so I thought I'd share how we made it!

I didn't actually get a photo of all the stuff you will need to make it as Luke's kitchen table just wasn't big enough but a list will have to suffice!

You will need:

Ingredients
175g of butter
175g of golden caster sugar
3 eggs
200g of self-raising flour
1 teaspoon of baking powder
2 teaspoon of cinnamon
4 tablespoon of milk
4 round tablespoon of nutella
50g of roughly chopped hazelnuts

Utensils
bowls
spoons and spatulas
whisk
measuring bowl & scales
measuring spoons/cups
baking tin & grease proof paper

Bake time - 1 hr 10 mins (we baked for just under an hour) | Serves 12

We measured all the ingredients on the scales then poured into a big bowl in preparation for whisking but we made the mistake of adding in the nutella as well which you're meant to keep until once you've mixed together to put on top but we done that too so it was extra nutella-y and nobody was complaining.

Apart from the nutella mistake we pretty much followed the recipe, we added extra cinnamon on top to make it even more spicy and it didn't need to cook as long as the cookbook said so just keep that in mind and eyeball it/check on it every 10/20 minutes.

Once you've mixed all the ingredients, added the four blobs of nutella on top and sprinkled the hazelnuts on top it's time to pop it in the oven and start making the icing!

As the cake didn't have an icing on it in the recipe, we decided that it needed a butter icing to make it more yummy!  It's difficult to give a recipe for butter icing as it's really just trial and error.

You will need:
Butter
Icing sugar
Vanilla (or any other flavouring of your choice)

My main tip for making butter icing is taste it throughout as it will taste super buttery when you add the grams told by a recipe so you just need to add icing sugar as you whisk to get the right taste!

We baked it for around 1 hour and it was a little burnt on top but you just have to keep an eye on it as I said.

Leave to cool then add the icing and it's done!

The cake wasn't the best cake in the whole world but it was pretty damn good for the first time we've ever baked!

I hope this inspires you to bake something cause I know I will be baking a lot more now and if you make this cake then do share it with me because it was yummy.

Also, apologies for the lack of posts recently, college is overwhelming and this week I was in Amsterdam with my boyfriend which I will be writing a post about the moment I get my photos developed!

Thanks for reading and I hope you enjoyed
