If you've ever been on a train for any amount of time you will know that they get pretty boring pretty quickly, especially if you're travelling alone. As my boyfriend and I are long distance I've been on my fair share of long train journeys. The long train journeys I'm used to are around 3 hours which I suppose isn't longest nor the shortest but I'm sure these ideas on how to keep the boredom at bay will work for any amount of time while on pretty much any mode of transport.
The obvious one would be to read a book or a magazine which I find very hard to do unless I'm in my room in complete silence but I attempted it this journey and yup... got through about 5 pages before giving up. Reading in public is just not my virtue but if you can then it'll be sure to pass a big chunk of your journey.
I find buying something at the train station like a coffee, a drink, some food or even some mints will keep my occupied on the train and it's always handy to have something to eat and drink on the train as train food is expensive and I'm sure it's not worth it.
Take photos! On train journeys I always have my camera in my carry on (for safety mostly) but also in case I see anything cool I want to take photos of. My boyfriend recently gave me a point and shoot which means I can carry it around every day and take photos without worrying about lugging my big camera about because it's very heavy. Taking photos on the train can be another way of passing time as it takes your mind off the long train journey ahead, especially if the journey is a nice scenic route that you can take a few snaps of! If you don't have a camera, you're phone will work fine too, just snap a few pictures and load them into Vscocam - just as good as a camera!
Don't. Forget. Your. Headphones.
Pretty self explanatory but any journey, whether it be 5 minutes of 5 hours. Bring you headphones. Seriously. They will save you. Whether it be to listen to music, watch Youtube videos, watch t.v on apps like 4od or BBC. Bring your damn headphones.
Of course texting someone or strolling through Instagram and Tumblr are also options but if you have to save your battery as you're not sitting next to a plug then these are some ideas. If you have some work to do then bringing your laptop would also be an idea but that would involve plugs and stuff so that's completely optional. You could also have a quick nap but be sure to set your alarm as you don't want to miss your stop!
Thank you for reading and I hope you enjoyed, something a little different but I'm at my boyfriends and I didn't fully prepare/realise how hard it would be do write posts when I don't have anything I haven't reviewed or talked about with me so expect more lifestyle type posts. We're going to see The Fault in Our Stars very soon so expect a post on that!
