Over the last few weeks I've had the want to start painting bowls and mugs and other glass items so I decided to make use of what I had lying about. I had this milk bottle from my recent trip to Ikea and some pastel nail polishes from MUA which are a pain on the nails due to how sheer they are so I decided to pair them for a cute stripped design.
This was the finished result and I'm pretty happy with it considering it was my first attempt.
I'd already started before I decided that I was going to do a blog post on it so please excuse that!
What you will need:
Glass jar of some sort
Nail polish of your choice and as many as you like/can fit
White nail polish as a base (optional)
Cellotape to separate the colours and define your lines
I done all three sections separately and I wish I'd taped the jar then done the white base coat all at once instead of in sections as when I was holding the top to do the bottom, there were small finger prints so if I'd just done it all at once then it would all have dried at the same time.
First I taped the section I was painting, the cellotape can be fiddly around the curves of the jar and this resulted in the green section being a little wonky as I couldn't stretch the cellotape the way I wanted.
After that I painted a thin coat of white nail polish just so the colour would pop a little as I knew these nail polishes were pretty rubbish (£1 for MUA, can't really complain!) but if you're using a higher quality nail polish then you might not need to. I needed at least 3/4 coats of the nail polish before I was happy with it so keep that in mind if it's looking crap and patchy with only 1 or 2 coats.
After 3/4 coats I left it to dry for around half an hour then peeled the tape off.
If you have a clear nail polish lying about (which I didn't) you could paint that over the colour once it's dry and with the tape still on.
This is what I already had in the jar and I think it looks just as good with the DIY! I hope you enjoyed and maybe try this out for yourself, the nail polish fumes are hella strong but it's worth it as it's cheap as chips!
Thank you for reading.
